Centex Homes started out in Dallas, Texas in 1950, and has been building homes in Illinois for more than 50 years. In the 1950s, Centex Homes was credited with developing Elk Grove Village, IL, the nation’s first master-planned community. The "new city" debuted in 1957 with such innovations as underground utilities and phone lines, a first in the United States.
